Business 2.0
There’s a parallel world to the one in which we live, and every time I get the chance to peek into it, I find countless timesavers and opportunities to improve business performance. That world is not the internet we know, and it’s not even what’s often referred to as “web 2.0”—to be honest, I can’t really explain it! So for this newsletter, I’m turning the mic over to my technology tour guide, Jared Goralnick, President of SET Consulting. I’ve asked him to offer a few concrete suggestions that will help you navigate web 2.0 and beyond. Here’s what he had to say:
“Your clients are experts in their industries, but as the internet and its influence continue to expand, it has become increasingly difficult to stay up to date online, and to filter the useful signal from the background noise. Technology has an answer, and it’s called Really Simple Syndication, or RSS. It allows you to select online authors and interest-areas that you find relevant and/or noteworthy and have them sent directly to you (via email, via Outlook 2007, or a reader). You can read the cumulative results of your RSS selections—called an RSS feed—all in one place, at your convenience, online or offline. RSS will change the way you stay informed and offer valuable insight for both your business and your clients. (More information - a 3 minute video explanation - a popular RSS reader)
“RSS will take some to time with which to become familiar. In the mean time, a few services from which most of your clients could immediately benefit include Jott and Google Alerts. Jott.com is a service through which you record, via a toll-free number, a message that will be transcribed and emailed back to you as text. Better yet, you can have the message sent to someone else so that you can easily assign responsibilities when you’re away from your PC. Google Alerts is also quick and easy—everyone should enter themselves and their company (assuming they’re unique names) into the Google Alert system, in order to be notified whenever there’s news on the web that includes those terms.”
I recognize that these suggestions merely scratch the surface of how technology can streamline your efforts and drive customers to your business.
